You may have heard of Kheris Rodgers, an 11-year-old girl from Los Angeles who has officially become the youngest fashion designer ever.
Earlier this year, Rodgers gained popularity when her sister posted photos to social media promoting Kheris’ apparel line, Flexin’ in my Complexion.
Kheris was bullied in school for her dark skin, and she says it really affected her at first. However, at only 11 years old, she’s learned to embrace her natural skin tone and is on a journey to boost the self-esteem of other black girls around the country.
During New York Fashion Week (September 7-13), Kheris presented some of her designs at the Museum of the City of New York.
She later tweeted: “I just made history as #NYFW youngest fashion designer EVER! I am only 11 years old and made it while encouraging people to love their skin.”

The initial spark that led to the clothing line had to do with Kheris’ older sister. When she saw how much the bullying was effecting her little sister, she was determined to give her a confidence boost. She took several model-style photos of Kheris and posted them to social media. Almost immediately, they went viral.
She told one reporter: “Now, I know I’m pretty, and I’m not going to let anyone tell me different.”
Kheris has received a ton of media attention. Aside from Vibe Magazine and Ebony Magazine, she has even been interviewed on CBS News.
