However, in an effort to give survivors the key items the need, and hopefully to rebuild homes as well, a group of celebrities have teamed up to raise money for the cause. The event will be called “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief”. Many celebrities have volunteered to appear on it in, including Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Jamie Foxx, Karlie Kloss, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Sandler and others.

According to the telethon website, it will start at 8 pm eastern standard time, showing on the networks ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and CMT with a rebroadcast on the West Coast. The money generated by by the telethon will be granted to charitable organization based in Texas, such as United Way of Greater Houston, Feeding Texas, Direct Relief, Save the Children, Habitat for Humanity and The Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief.

The initial idea for the telethon came from rapper Bun B and music talent manager Scooter Braun. However, Bun said that he would not invite President Trump to the be part of the charity event, unless he was part of a group of former presidents. Bun B cited Trump neglect and handling of the riot in Charlottesville, Virginia as the reason why he thinks Trump would not be a good guest to have. On the other hand, Trump did actually make a point of visiting Houston twice since August 25th.
