This past weekend, Disney gave us a glimpse of the first official trailer of their newest film which is set to be released on March 9, 2018.

The movie will be based off the 1963 award-winning children’s book by Madeleine L’Engle, “A Wrinkle in Time.” Storm Reid will play the lead role – a young black girl named Meg Murry.

Reid made her debut in the Oscar-winning film titled, “Twelve Years a Slave.” She embodies total #blackgirlmagic! And to add to the magic of the film, Oprah Winfrey will star in it as well.

Although the trailer is only 1 minute and 49 seconds long, viewers were excited to catch a glimpse of the costume work.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Director Ava DuVernay said, “My whole process with this film was – what if? With these women, I wondered, could we make them women of different ages, body types, races? Could we bring in culture, bring in history in their costumes? And in the women themselves, could we just reflect a fuller breadth of femininity?”

L’Engle’s classic novel was rejected by several publishing companies because they felt that her story was too “outside the box.”

In an acceptance speech in 1998 for the Margaret Edwards Award, L’Engle said, “So WRINKLE, when it was finally published in 1962, after two years of rejections, broke several current taboos. The protagonist was female, and one of the unwritten rules of science fiction was that the protagonist should be male. I’m a female. Why would I give all the best ideas to a male?”
